I have always been involved in sales & marketing. Although I am in my 30's, it feels like forever sometimes! I grew up with a Dad who was Rescue Squad/EMS and a brother who in HS was FD. I spent quite a bit of time going to calls, riding in ambulances and hanging out at the various stations...
In the mid-90's I was asked by a friend that is a Fire Chief to research funding options for his department and participate and sit on his grant committee. Little did I know, I was the grant committee!
After assisting them in applying for several state applications for funding, I was asked to write their AFG application after they received a 'Dear John' rejection letter the previous year.
After considerable research & workshops, I wrote their narrative after numerous consultations with the Chief. The application was for SCBAs, Thermal Imaging Camera and a Generator for the station. Our $125,000 project was funded 1 week before Christmas, eight months later.
I went from one friend's department AFG application and doubled the applications the following year, and continued to (more than!) double it every year until 2003 when I worked with over 25 departments on their Spring AFG application. During this time, I have seen nearly $17 Million in funding go to the Fire Departments (and municipalities and non-profits) I have provided assistance. I have had the privilege to work on SAFER, AFG, Fire Prevention & Safety and various private foundation funding sources.

I attend approximately 20+ hours of training per year on new guidelines and sources of funding pertaining to AFG/FEMA, CEDAP, DHS grants and various other training workshops.
